Geeignet für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene (max. 8 Personen)
This 3 day workshop include demonstrations and hands on work. We will do an hour or so of foot wedging at the beginning. Everyone participates in making a custom clay body for the workshop.
Jeff Shapiro will do a power point presentation at the beginning, and discuss wood firing and alternative firing approaches as people are interested. Jeff Shapiro will demo in the morning of the first day and then get students going as he continue to demonstrate and work.
He will show the technique of stretching slabs (without rollers) by hand and texturing through scraping and stretching gritty clays, and then fabricating forms from the slabs. And, separately, show the technique He does for tea bowl building (the technique can be used for fast building of larger vessels as well) which is soft coiling, and scraping. It is also possible to do a simple tea ceremony on the last day.
His Statement: Basically I would like to push people out of their comfort zone (gently!) and challenge them. This method of stretching and building with slabs can be used for flat ware or vessel forms. Soft coiling can be used for building vessels and sculpture.
